Gay Marriage

Just another one of those things that really tick me off. It is unconstitutional to outlaw gay marriage; any schoolchild can tell you that our Declaration of Rights states that ALL are permitted 'life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.' Of course, there are limits, mostly to protect society as a whole; i.e., you cannot murder, kill, nor molest, nor steal, nor commit adultery without impunity. However, all of these are to protect any and everyone from physical harm.

Who would be harmed by gay marriage? Obviously, if those two individuals decided to divorce, they and their families would be saddened, as happens when so-called 'straight' couples divorce. Everyone is entitled to the right of marriage. What will they do next, outlaw suicide?

Old laws have been rewritten or declared obsolete to suit modern times; take the car as an example. Nobody had a motorized vehicle of the sort when our Founding Fathers first penned the Declaration and Constitution. Who would have dreamed in 1776 or humans rushing along at speeds of over 100 miles an hour, able to traverse the continent in a matter of days? Who would have dreamed of humans flying miles above the ground, in huge metal birds, able to traverse the continent in a matter of HOURS? Lincoln liberated the slaves; the country survived so much the stronger for it. Why can't we 'liberate' all homosexual and bisexual people, as well?

All who agree, stand up for your rights: DO NOT ALLOW so-called 'traditional' Christians to dictate your life, your marriage, your decisions, your hopes and dreams and happiness! Should we allow the most sensitive person to control us? Allude to Fahrenheit 451 - look what happened to them! Look over and summarize all dystopian literature: what is a common element? Governmental control, dislike of reading and books, the symbolic death of knowledge, TOTAL CONTROL.

Should we allow censorship of everything, too? Look at modern-day China! How well did that go? People will always thirst for, need, seek, desire knowledge. If you don't like it, DON'T stay! Go elsewhere where more people share your beliefs and values!
For that matter, should we return to the post-colonial era, with a small aristocracy, slavery, control of women by men? NO! We move, every single day, towards a more enlightened, FREE state. Why did we get involved in the Iraqi war on terror, as Good ol' Dubyah calls it?

Freedom.

Save it.

Help.

Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness
